Visual Images are everywhere: on a walk to a friend's house, on the subway in Bangkok, in art galleries, and on the net. The following writing exercises asks you to choose an image and write a narrative: what came before, and what comes after. Look below the fold for sample images and things to keep in mind.
Task:
Become a character in one of the images below.
Create a 250-300 word, type-written narrative sketch that tells the story of this image. You could be IN the image, or simply an observer SEEING the image. Write in the first-person, present tense and remember to use strong adjectives and verbs, with an emphasis on sensory imagery. The questions you should address in your narrative are:
- Who is the figure in the photograph?
- What is the setting?
- What is his/her story?
- What just happened, and why?
- What will happen next?
Note: Please make this piece a seamless one, rather than listing the questions and answering each one. It should read like a short piece of fiction that pulls the reader in.
